3D Scanning

3D scanning is a great way to bring complex parts in CAD systems for reverse engineering or to reference new parts to.

We can scan parts and provide the raw scan data for you to generate your CAD from, or we can do the reverse engineering for you.

If your part is complete, we can scan the part straight to an .STL file for immediate 3D printing.

This centre console component from a 1975 Celica was cracked and broken from years of UV exposure, and there are no originals left to replace it. We superglued it back together and scanned the part for reproduction. The green masking tape covers a reflective inlay that would interfere with the scan, and the reflective dots are used to assist the accuracy of the scanning.

We 3d printed a prototype in white PLA to test fit the geometry. Some of the mounting screw ports on the reverse side had broken off and been reglued in about the right place. 3D printing a cheap white prototype allowed us and our customer to draw on to show any changed that need to be made.
